18.72 Tons of Trash Taken from Two Demonstration Sites

Jakarta Environmental Agency successfully cleaned 18,72 tons of waste from the DPR/MPR Building and Medan Merdeka areas after the demonstration that took place on Monday (8/25).

The cleaning operation was run from Monday night until Tuesday (8/26) early morning by deploying 90 personnel of Central Jakarta Environmental Sub-agency.

Head of Jakarta Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto said the operation was immediately started after the crowd dispersed.

"Citizen's right to a clean environment must also be respected. Our team arrived on time, so everything was already clean in the morning," he said, Tuesday (8/26).

Asep explained that the cleaning operation was focused in two locations, namely the DPR/MPR Building that included Jalan Pemuda Senayan, Jalan Pejompongan, up to Tanah Abang, and Gambir area on Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat and Timur.

According to him, standard protocols have been implemented since 2023, including site monitoring, fleet preparation, and team deployment once the crowds have dispersed.

"We have a tight timeline. Everything must be clean by 5 AM," he explained.

Jakarta Environmental Agency also emphasized the importance of waste management in all mass activities in reducing personnel and environment burden. Asep hopes there will be an awareness from all parties to avoid leaving waste behind.

"We are ready to accommodate waste by providing trash bins," he added.

As for information, the agency deployed 250 personnel of Central Jakarta Environmental Sub-agency and 100 PPSU of Gelora and Bendungan Hilir Urban Villages. They were supported with 12 road sweepers, 3 mini dump trucks, and 10 dump trucks.

The total amount of waste collected reached 85 cubic meters, equivalent to 18.72 tons. The waste was predominantly inorganic materials, such as banners, plastic bottles, and poster scraps.
